The steward is the member of the council in charge of collecting tax and administering the demesne.  The position of steward is available to those vassals and courtiers who are male, over 16 years old, not a prisoner, and not incapable.

Stewards are given a small monthly salary and a monthly prestige bonus, and upon appointment the steward will gain a +15 opinion boost towards his liege. Characters with a high stewardship stat are preferred for this position. Stewards can be tasked to do three things: collect taxes, oversee construction, and research economy tech.

Actions[]

Collect Taxes - the steward is sent to a particular county to collect tax there there. While the steward is in that county, the local tax modifier will be increased, with a higher stewardship stat yielding a greater increase. There is however a small chance of the local peasantry attacking the steward, potentially wounding or maiming him.

Oversee Construction - the steward is sent to a particular county to oversee construction there. While the steward is in that county, the local build time modifier will be increased, with a higher stewardship stat yielding a greater decrease. There is however a small chance of the construction being sabotaged. There is also a small chance of finding a master builder, who will further decrease the local build time modifier.

Research Economy Tech - the steward is sent to a particular county to research economy tech there. While the steward is in that county, the economy technology spread rate will be increased, with a higher stewardship stat yielding a greater increase.

Variants[]

The steward of a Byzantine ruler is instead known as a Sakellarios.
